Working with TLCTLC VolunteersWe are always pleased to hear from people wanting to be a volunteer. This is a vital role, providing much needed assistance to both those with life-limiting conditions and their families/carers. In addition to befriending, a volunteer may undertake practical assistance in collecting prescriptions, doing light shopping, taking people to appointments or out on social visits, walking the dog, etc. The role demands a special sort of person – kind, sensitive and caring as well as very self-aware (particularly if they have suffered a loss of their own in recent times) – and includes providing respite for carers as well as helping those with a life-limiting condition. The basic requirement is for up to 3 hours a week of home visits and a commitment to volunteer for a minimum of 12 months. No particular qualifications are required: what we look for is life experience and a genuine interest in helping others. Please call for further details or email us on Complementary Therapists The therapists who work on behalf of the charity contract their services, having a recognised qualification in their field and previous experience of administering therapies in their own right. The types of therapy we offer those who use our services include Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Reiki, Indian Head Massage and the ‘M’ technique (a particularly gentle form of relaxation for the very frail). Reflexology and Aromatherapy are the therapies most frequently used. We encourage therapists to undertake training in the 'M' technique: we also encourage therapists to achieve the Certificate in Holistic Palliative Care (funding is available to support both types of training).
